Perspectives on youth and identity in Southeast Asia.
A panel discussion with curator Vignes Balasingam, the artists and Dr. Amanda-Katherine Rath

The event aims to give an insight on the works of the photography exhibition "we will have been young" of the twelve participating artists from eight countries in Southeast Asia that deal with questions of youth, identity and the ambivalence of the future. Dr. Amanda-Katherine Rath and the curator of the show Vignes Balasingam will discuss with the artists the topics as well as the processes of their photo series that were created during the Photography Masterclass 2016/17 in Penang, Malaysia under the direction of Jörg Brüggemann and Tobias Kruse of the OSTKREUZ - Agentur der Fotografen.

The event will be in English.

Vignes Balasingam is curator, photographer and director of the Obscura Festival of Photography.

Dr. Amanda-Katherine Rath is lecturer in the Dept. of Southeast Asian Studies and in the Institute of Art History, as well as the Curatorial Studies Program at the Goethe University, Frankfurt. Her research and teaching focus is the modern and contemporary art of Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.

"we will have been young" is an exhibition of the OBSCURA Festival of Photography, in cooperation with the OSTKREUZ - Agentur der Fotografen and the Goethe-Institut.
