The artist-in-residence program ‚AIR_Frankfurt’ holds a new cooperation between basis e.V. Frankfurt, the artist space lostgens’ Kuala Lumpur and the Goethe-Institute Malaysia. Zelin Seah (Kuala Lumpur) and Filippa Pettersson (Frankfurt) are the first fellows of this new cooperation. The evening gives one the opportunity to meet both artists and to gain an insight into their work and Kuala Lumpur’s artistic scene.

The Frankfurt based artist Filippa Pettersson (*1987) has just returned from the first three-month residency at lostgens’. In Kuala Lumpur she intensely worked on Malaysia’s ghost culture and its meaning for present and future. Based on this research and comprehensive interview material, Pettersson created puppet-like sculptures that she presented in her exhibition ‚Maranundak’ at lostgens’ Kuala Lumpur.

Zelin Seah (*1980) is the current resident from Kuala Lumpur at basis e.V. Frankfurt, where he will live and work for the next three months. In his impressive oil paintings and object based works, Seah follows his interest in socio economic processes and Malysian ‚Paranakan’ culture. A final exhibition at basis project space will conclude his residency mid of december.

The talk will be in english.

The Artist-in-Residence Program „AIR_Frankfurt“ was founded in 1990 by the Cultural Deapartment of the City of Frankfurt. Since 2016 it is conducted by basis e.V.
