AIR_Frankfurt: new cooperation with Kuala Lumpur!
Air_Frankfurt and basis e.v. are very happy to announce the new cooperation with Kuala Lumpur. Frankfurt based artists will be invited for the first time to work and live in the art space 'Lostgens' in Kuala Lumpur in the months of May, June and July 2017. The program is supported by Goethe-Institut Malaysia.
The partner cities of 2017 are Antwerp and Strasbourg (application ended) in the first half of the year. Seoul and the new cooperation partner Kuala Lumpur in the second half of the year (see the current call). Young artists who predominantly live and work in Frankfurt can apply for the residency. Applicants are selected by a jury appointed by the relevant city. The grant includes a monthly per diem of 1.000 Euro. Each city offers a studio and an apartment for the artist.
The Culture Department of the City of Frankfurt am Main has conducted an Artist in Residence Programme since the year 1990 together with international partner cities. To date, around 100 artists from Frankfurt have enjoyed the opportunity of a cultural interchange and just as many artists from abroad have taken part in the program here.
The Artist in Residence Programme will in future be managed jointly by AIR_Frankfurt and the production and exhibition platform basis e.V.. The aim of the cooperation is to increase the curatorial focus on the program and to involve the artists within the during operation of an art institution. Thereby the artist will be supported individually and the residency should serve to establish new contacts that could be beneficial for creative achievements of the future.
